The former Legia Warsaw boss knows this is a setback for his fellow countryman but is confident he will come back from it even stronger. Chermiti is viewed as one of the top prospects in his homeland who can become one of the future replacements for Ronaldo's main striking role in their national team. Feio explained to Record Sport: “Chermiti is out for the rest of the season with a confirmed ACL rupture. This is a huge setback in terms of his career momentum. “He just needs to concentrate on getting fit and getting back to the levels he showed in some of the big games last season, like the matches against Celtic and Hearts. “In Portugal, he is one of the players the country is hoping can become a really great No. 9. “I remember last season at the start of the season he was called up for the Portugal under-21s, but wasn’t getting a lot of playing time for Rangers. “He then found his form and started to score goals and Chermiti started to look really good. “I think we are all hoping he can get himself fit and back to that level again or even higher.” Feio - who was linked with the Rangers’ job before Russell Martin was appointed - reckons AC Milan new boy Goncalo Ramos is viewed as the immediate one to takeover from Ronaldo. He thinks that Chermiti has to concentrate on getting fully fit and getting back to his form of last season. Feio insisted: “If Chermiti can get fit and back to the form he showed last season then he would have a good chance. “The Portuguese national team is now entering a new era, with a new coach. “We are still waiting to see what he wants to do and if there is still going to be a role for Cristiano Ronaldo in the No.9 position. “AC Milan just bought Goncalo Ramos for 80 million euros from Paris St-Germain. “He is expected to be come the next No. 9. “Chermiti is younger than him and I do believe he is one of the upcoming strikers that the Portuguese people have a lot of faith in to become one of the good No. 9 for the Portugal national team, especially if he can get back to full fitness and competing, scoring regularly and developing at Rangers. “I think if he does that then he has the potential to achieve that.” Rangers turned down a £20 million offer for Chermiti from Galatasaray just days before he suffered his ACL injury. Feio, who was interviewed for the Motherwell job last month, thinks there could be even more value for Rangers in Chermiti if he goes on and fulfils his potential “I know Rangers turned down a big offer for Chermiti,” the former Tondelo boss admitted. “It is a big decision from the club. “I know he has been unlucky with the injury but if he can get back to his best and increase his potential, that should increase the potential for even more profit later on. “If all parts are aligned and he keeps growing: I think he is in the right environment to keep developing and scoring. “He is a very interesting player with a great striking profile that the top clubs are looking for.”
