Floyd Mayweather Jr. has made his feelings clear about Claressa Shields ahead of her major boxing fight in Atlanta. The former undefeated champion called Shields the best fighter in the sport right now and urged fans to support her before Saturday’s main event at State Farm Arena.
Mayweather praised Shields’ Olympic success, professional record and talent while highlighting her impact on women’s boxing. “She’s the best in the sport right now,” Mayweather said during media availability. Shields, who remains undefeated, will return to middleweight to face Australian champion Kaye Scott. The fight will make history as the first women’s main event at State Farm Arena and will stream live on DAZN.
Floyd Mayweather Praises Claressa Shields
Mayweather gave Shields strong support while standing beside her during Friday’s media availability. The boxing legend said, “She’s the best in the sport right now,” while acknowledging that other women compete at a high level.
“You know you got other women… other women in the sport… she’s the best in the sport right now,” Mayweather added.
He also pointed to Shields’ achievements as a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Mayweather noted that she is a Black woman who has reached the top of the Olympic Games twice and said she has not always received the full credit she deserves.
“She’s very outspoken,” Mayweather said. “Super, super talented. She’s the best out there.”
Mayweather also asked fans to support Shields at the arena and from home. “I need everybody that’s watching right now… tune in tomorrow, support her. Continue to support her. I’m behind her 100 percent. Let’s go champ.”
Claressa Shields Faces Kaye Scott
Shields enters the boxing fight with an 18-0 record and three knockouts. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and became the first boxer in the four-belt era to become undisputed champion in three weight classes.
The Claressa Shields boxing career has included undisputed titles at middleweight, super welterweight and heavyweight. She is now moving back to 160 pounds to challenge Kaye Scott for the WBA and WBC middleweight titles.
Scott, 42, has a 5-1-1 professional record. She won the vacant WBA and WBC middleweight titles by majority decision against Olivia Curry in December 2025. The Australian also has two world championship silver medals from her amateur career.
For Shields, the boxing fight offers another chance to build on her legacy while returning to a division where she previously held undisputed status.
Floyd Mayweather Backs Historic Boxing Event
Mayweather’s support has brought more attention to the Claressa Shields fight. He has promoted the event in recent days, describing the matchup as a meeting between TBE and GWOAT. Shields is known as the GWOAT, or Greatest Woman of All Time, while Mayweather is widely associated with TBE, meaning The Best Ever.
Shields smiled during the media appearance and called Mayweather “my man.” She also noted that he has referred to her as the “Female T.B.E.”
The event marks the first time a women’s main event will take place at State Farm Arena. The fight will stream live on DAZN, with Shields seeking another major win after her success across multiple divisions.
Mayweather has now made his position clear. He considers Shields the best in boxing right now and has called on fans to support her as she prepares to face Scott.
