But the Blues boss acknowledged he will have to be patient, as he looks to continue strengthening the middle of the park Mousinho: ‘We’re definitely looking at additions in midfield’ Six players have been recruited to date, with one of the most eye-catching additions being Estonian Rocco Shein. His multi-million pound capture stiffens the quality centrally, with that required amid midfield injuries and the loss of Andre Dozzell to MLS side DC United. More work is required, however, with Antalyaspor midfielder Jesper Ceesay a player firmly in Pompey’s sights. Mousinho has confirmed more strengthening in that department can be expected and is required at PO4. He said: ‘We’re definitely looking at additions in midfield. ‘It will most likely be there (number six position). If you look at where we’ve been over the past couple of seasons, we’ve had Pottsy in there with Isaac Hayden towards the back end of the first Championship season. ‘Last year we had Doz, Luke and Marlon. With Marlon out at the moment and Doz leaving we do feel that we are short there.’ Pompey begin their EFL season at West Ham United in the Carabao Cup this weekend, backed by 9,000 travelling fans who are marching on the capital. The reality is the Blues go into the game with gaps in their squad in multiple areas, with only some speedy business solving those issues before the Championship curtain-raiser against QPR on August 15. Mousinho would clearly want those issues resolved sooner rather than later but knows he has to temper that sentiment to a degree - even if he is demanding of upping standards. He added: ‘I am patient, you just have to be at any level. You have to be across the board. ‘Any manager you speak to is in the same boat. ‘We had conversations at the end of last season about where the club can go. ‘It’s not just transfers. It’s on the transfer front and squad building front - but it’s about pushing forward at the training ground, the ground and pushing for improvements in all departments. ‘We’re fighting against big hitters, but we have to be as good as possible in every area to produce wins on the pitch. ‘In order to have that you need people at the club to demand the best of everything.’
