Sheffield United's Championship rivals 'agree' £14m deal as Portsmouth 'close in' on winger All the very latest Championship transfer rumours ahead of the start of the 2026/27 campaign next week. Sheffield United will be hoping to take their encouraging pre-season form into Sunday’s season opener against Mansfield Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup. The Blades, who exited the competition at the first round stage last season, will make the short trip to the One Call Stadium with the ambition of making a winning start to the 2026/27 campaign and building further momentum ahead of their Championship opener against Birmingham City the following weekend. Although United's pre-season results were positive, they have struggled to make inroads in the transfer market, bringing in just three signings so far, including the return of Jaïro Riedewald. Matt Doherty is their most recent recruit, having arrived on a free transfer just over a fortnight ago. With just over a week to go until the start of the new Championship campaign, Blades supporters are desperate to see one or two new faces added to the squad. With that in mind, here are some of the latest transfer rumours concerning United's Championship rivals... Boro ‘agree’ Vítek deal Middlesbrough have ‘agreed a deal’ with Manchester United to sign goalkeeper Radek Vítek, according to a report by Sky Sports. The Riverside outfit have been looking to strengthen their goalkeeping department throughout the summer, and it appears their search is set to lead them to the 22-year-old. Vítek, who joined the Red Devils in 2020, spent last season on loan at Bristol City, keeping 12 clean sheets in 41 Championship appearances, and frequently impressed. It has been reported that the former Accrington Stanley loanee will join Middlesbrough in a deal that could eventually be worth £14 million. It has also been reported that Manchester United will insert a 35 per cent sell-on clause, along with matching rights and a buy-back option, into the deal. Middlesbrough have been among the busiest clubs in the Championship this summer, bringing in six signings so far, including the big-money additions of Max Arfsten and Will Lankshear. Kamara ‘set’ for Portsmouth return According to a report by Hull Live, Hull City winger Abu Kamara is ‘closing in’ on a permanent move to Portsmouth. The 23-year-old has been linked with a return to Fratton Park throughout the summer, and it is reported that he is set to move back to Pompey in a deal worth £2.5 million. Kamara, who spent last season on loan at Spanish side Getafe, previously spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Portsmouth from former club Norwich City. He played a starring role in helping them win the League One title, scoring 10 goals and registering 11 assists across all competitions. Pompey have been keen to re-sign their former loanee for a lengthy period, meaning his impending return to the club will be celebrated by their supporters. It has been claimed that Charlton Athletic entered the conversation to try to sign the winger but were ‘unable to match’ the offer presented by Pompey. Kamara joined Hull in August 2024 and has scored five goals in 40 appearances for the East Yorkshire club.
