Crawley Town defeated in final pre-season friendly against Reading Crawley Town took on League One outfit Reading in their final pre-season game and lost 1-0. The Reds had the first effort of the match through Danny Cashman who cut onto his left foot and before curling an effort towards the top left corner but didn’t hit the target. Just past the ten minute mark Reading’s Paddy Lane delivered a ball into the box and target Randell Williams looked for the spectacular effort but failed to register an attempt and Crawley cleared the ball. With twenty minutes on the clock Peterborough loanee Pemi Aderoju got away from his man smartly and an opening on goal appeared but his strike across the face of goal narrowly missed the target. The ball broke on the edge of the box with half an hour played but former Crawley man Liam Fraser effort wasn’t struck cleanly and it was collected comfortably by Jackson Izquierdo in the Crawley goal. A few minutes later one of Crawley’s trialist went on an incredible run down the left hand side before winning the Reds a corner before Reading’s Williams lofted a ball to the back post which was headed over by Phil Duah and that brought an end to half with very little in the way of chances. Two changes for Crawley as the Reds trialist goalkeeper came on in place of Izquierdo and Stephen Duke-McKenna replaced one of Crawley’s trialists Ten minutes into the second half Jerea Jones cut inside the pitch before pulling the trigger but it was blocked well by Crawley’s defence and it went out for a corner. On the hour mark the away side broke away down the right hand side before the ball was squared to substitute Emmanuel Osho but his shot was blocked. The trialist goalkeeper for Crawley was called into action again when Osho was put through on goal but the keeper was quick off his line and smothered the ball. Eight changes followed for Colin Kazim-Richards side before Jay Williams got his first minutes of pre-season when he was brought on ten minutes later. Crawley had their best move of the match with just under 20 minutes of normal time left to play as Duke-McKenna and Malcolm Ebiowei combined which led to Reading’s Jack Stevens forced to make a save as Crawley’s number tried to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle. Kazim-Richards side began to find their rhythm with some great passages of play with the attackers all combining as they looked to create some more clear cut chances. Against the run of play Boyd Beacroft opened the scoring for the Royals from an audacious effort inside his own half as Crawley’s trialist keeper made a hash of a clearance. The Reds trailed with ten minutes remaining. Crawley nearly found their equaliser late on through Danilo Orsi following a pin point cross from Louie Watson but the header didn’t quite have enough power to cause Stevens any real harm. The full time whistle shortly followed and now Kazim-Richards’ Crawley turn their full attention to Monday night when they face York City in a Carabao Cup preliminary round to book a spot in the first round.
