Max Arfsten reveals what Aidan Morris told him about Middlesbrough in first interview What Max Arfsten said in his first interview as a Middlesbrough player Max Arfsten says he was excited by the Middlesbrough promotion challenge, and revealed how Aidan Morris once again played a role in convincing him to join. Arfsten signed a four-year contract at the Riverside and was officially unveiled as a Boro player on Tuesday. It ended a two-year pursuit from Boro for the attack-minded wing-back. It also sees Arfsten, 25, realise his ambition of playing in Europe, as he now looks to quickly get up to speed in the Championship and show what he can do. Speaking in his first club interview, Arfsten said: “I'm feeling very excited. I can't wait to train with all the guys and play in front of the fans and make this fan base proud. “I'm so excited to have a new challenge and more than anything just excited to play with the guys and just hit the ground running. “The ambitions of the club [sold the move to me], how they [Kieran Scott and Chris Jones] are as people and just the vision and the direction of where this club is going. It's super intriguing to me and I'm really happy to be a part of it.” In joining Boro he becomes the fourth player Boro have signed from the MLS in two years. He’s the second arrival from the States this summer, after Berhalter, and also joins fellow USA international Morris at the Riverside. It’s no secret that Boro’s pursuit of Arfsten has been a long one though, and 12 months ago, when they first made their move, Morris worked on convincing Arfsten on Boro then, before providing him this summer with an updated player’s perspective of playing under Hellberg. On what Morris told him, Arftsen said: “I've been wanting to come here for some time. But yeah, especially Aidan definitely, he was just telling me the style of play here and the culture, the fan base. “Obviously having Seb here now too, it's going to make the transition easier. I mean, anytime you move to a new club, new country, it takes some time. “But, you know, having some people that I know already is definitely going to make it easier. I'm hoping the fans like some American boys because it's going to be fun!” Arfsten has signed in time to be involved on Friday evening when Boro kick off their campaign against Wrexham at the Riverside in the first round of the Carabao. Having trained for the first time on Wednesday, however, it remains to be seen how quickly Kim Hellberg integrates him into the side. Arfsten is certainly hoping to be straight in though. “Yeah, for sure. My aim this week will be to show the manager that I'm fit and mentally ready to go,” he said. “I would say I'm a player that likes to excite the fans. I like to be aggressive in the attack and also aggressive in defense.
