Rangers shock exit mooted as club eyes Ibrox ace as replacement for £21m-rated Manchester United target Shock Rangers transfer story emerges. Rangers left-back Tuur Rommens has emerged as a transfer target for Club Brugge, with the Belgian giants reported to have already made contact with the Ibrox hierarchy over a shock move. Rommens, 23, is currently out injured with a groin issue, and only joined the club seven months ago in a £3.5million deal from Westerlo, but is said to have ‘genuine interest’ from Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko as a replacement for in-demand full-back Joaquin Seys. According to a report from Belgian transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Blauw-Zwart have made direct contact with Rangers to discuss the terms of a deal. While no official offer has been lodged, there is genuine interest in the Belgium youth international. It is understood that Brugge’s interest Rommens comes off the back of continued speculation around Seys, with English Premier League giants Manchester United understood to be closely monitoring the 21-year-old. Speaking this weekend about rumoured interest in Seys, head coach Leko said: “I’m proud that my guys are being linked to those clubs. We chat about it every now and then. How much of those rumours is true? I don’t know. If there’s a lot of money on the table, it’s obviously not easy to say no.” It is believed that Michael Carrick’s Manchester United side are leading the race to sign Seys, with the left-back viewed as an alternative to preferred target Lewis Hall. The Red Devil’s are keen on a deal for the England international; however, Newcastle are reluctant to sell their star defender after losing several big-name stars this summer. However, a summer move feels increasingly likely for the £21million-rated Club Brugge defender, meaning that the Jan Breydel Stadium outfit could have significant cash to spend if they wanted to tempt Rangers into an unexpected sale. Beginning his senior career with Genk as a teenager, Rommens is a well-known talent in Belgium and is viewed as one of the nation’s most promising young talents. Moving to Westerlo in the summer of 2022, he made 78 appearances at Het Juipje before being snapped up by Rangers in January. The athletic full-back has scored once and assisted a further two in 18 appearances at Ibrox, and has had an impressive start to his career with Rangers, despite the club’s continuous struggles. Speaking upon his arrival at the club in the new year, Rommens said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream to play for a club like this, and I only have positive feelings. Everyone knows Rangers, and when a club like this is interested in you, then you want to be part of this club. The most important thing is that they believe in me, and that’s why I have come here.
