Here's what is being done to improve healthy life expectancy in Blackpool as shocking figures released Data from the Office of National Statistics ranks Central Blackpool third lowest in the country for healthy life expectancy for males at 47.9 years Shock figures have revealed a healthy life expectancy of just 50 years or even less in parts on Blackpool. Data has been compiled by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows the amount of good health people in England and Wales can expect to enjoy over their lifetime varies from more than 75 years in some local areas to fewer than 50 years in others. The figures, compiled using a new method based on information from the 2021 census, show that the median average healthy life expectancy at birth for females across 2019 to 2023 was 66.8 years in England and 63.8 years in Wales. For males the median is lower, at 65.3 years in England and 62.5 years in Wales. The ONS calculated the healthy life expectancies for more than 7,200 local areas across England and Wales - and areas of Blackpool make up four of the 10 lowest local health expectancies for men and three of the 10 for women. Meanwhile, parts of London account for six of the 10 highest expectancies for men and five for women. The ONS data ranks Central Blackpool third lowest in healthy life expectancy for males at 47.9 years, South Promenade and Seasiders Way is seventh lowest at 49.6 years and North East Centre of Blackpool and North Shore joint ninth lowest at 49.8 years In the women’s ranking, North East Centre of Blackpool is second lowest at 50 years, South Promenade and Seasiders Way sixth lowest at 50.8 years and Little Layton and Little Carleton (Blackpool, Lancashire) ninth lowest at 51.6 years.
