Leon Bailey twist emerges after Hull City 'talks' over deal for Aston Villa winger
There appears to have beeb a fresh twist in Hull City’s pursuit of Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey
Hull City are reportedly closing in on the capture of Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey - despite reports of the proposed deal being on the verge of collapse.
The 28-year-old was first linked with the Tigers last month amid doubts over his future at Villa Park. He was loaned to Roma in the last summer window and although he returned to England for the second half of last season, Bailey was a bit-part player.
Hull could offer the Jamaica international a more prominent role, although fans have been left to fear an unsatisfactory end to negotiations.
Leon Bailey twist emerges
Hull Live have now claimed the move for Bailey is back on and could even be firmed up within the coming days.
Progress is said to have been made following talks between Bailey and Hull owner Acun Ilicali, who is under pressure to deliver signings for manager Sergej Jakirovic.
Hull were said to be close to pulling out of talks, although a medical for Bailey is now believed to have been lined up for this afternoon (August 5).
Hull City’s transfer dealings
Getting a deal done in the coming days would give Hull time to embed Bailey before the beginning of their Premier League campaign on August 22.
Bailey was a £25m acquisition from Bayer Leverkusen for Villa back in 2021 and has since racked up 163 appearances for the Midlands outfit.
He would add some much-needed Premier League experience to the Tigers ranks, as well as creativity and flair in the final third.
Hull have made five signings so far this summer, recruiting goalkeepers Jack Butland and Konstantinos Tzolakis, defender Matt Targett and midfielders Oscar Zambrano and Hidemasa Morita.
More signings are expected before the Tigers return to the top flight, with Jakirovic’s squad still in need of work.
