Phillips said: “I’m very excited to be here and can’t wait to be on the pitch. “This is an amazing club and it deserves to be in the Premier League. “I hope to be a good addition to what’s already a fantastic squad, and hopefully we can achieve great things together this season. “I got some great experience at a young age with Blackburn, and then experienced what it’s like to be a Premier League player at Tottenham. “I think I’ve developed myself into a good player during my loans, but there’s more to come from me and I hope I can show that here at Middlesbrough.” Phillips, 21, joins Boro to add competition at centre-back, with Kim Hellberg confirming at his press conference on Thursday he needed one. It follows Dael Fry's exit earlier this summer. In Phillips, Boro are landing a young defender with plenty of growth potential, but also already a lot of Championship experience. He has played over 100 second-tier games already during spells at Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City - the latter for whom he spent the last two years on loan. Phillips becomes Boro's seventh new summer signing, with Jeremy Sarmiento also making his loan move permanent.
