Long-term Rangers target completes medical ahead of record move as Celtic turf out bid from Premiership rivals
All the latest transfer news from across the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday afternoon, with news from Rangers and Celtic.
Rangers’ long-term target Jens Hjerto-Dahl is closing in on a move to newly promoted English Premier League side Hull City after agreeing to pay Tromso a record fee for the playmaker.
First linked to Ibrox during the January transfer window, the 20-year-old had serious interest from several teams this summer, impressing in the Eliteserien over the last 12 months with his hometown club. Rangers and Cardiff City are understood to have made an offer of around £8.5million for the Norwegian last month.
Named amongst the 100 best players under the age of 20 by CIES Football Observatory following his breakout season at the Romssa Arena in 2023/24, he’s been strongly compared to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and already made over 100 appearances for Tromso since making his debut aged just 17.
The Norway Under-21 international had also been a key target for EFL Championship side Cardiff City earlier in the window, with the Welsh outfit spending weeks negotiating with the Norwegian club, making him one of their priority targets this summer, even lodging what would be a club-record bid in an effort to land the Tromso prodigy.
However, according to Sky Sports, he is now closing in on a move to the MKM Stadium for a deal in the region of £10million as he joins the Tigers following their return to the English top flight. It's claimed Hjerto-Dahl has already undergone a medical ahead of the move, with paperwork due to be finalised on Wednesday before an official announcement.
Meanwhile, Premiership rivals Celtic have rejected a loan offer from Dundee for young centre-back Dane Murray, according to a report from the Courier. The 23-year-old defender has become a regular member of Martin O’Neill’s squad over the last eight months, making 16 appearances at Parkhead last season as the club recorded a fifth successive league title.
However, with Murray not a regular starter for the Hoops, Dundee head coach Steven Pressley had looked to bring him to Dens Park as they look to replace star defender Luke Graham following his £2million move to Stoke City in the summer. Despite having Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales ahead of him in the pecking order, it is claimed Celtic have no interest in sanctioning a temporary departure for the academy graduate.
Dundee, who fell to a 1-0 defeat in their season opener against Celtic on Monday, are understood to be interested in Aston Villa centre-back Josh Feeney. The youngster has spent time on loan to Real Union, Shrewsbury Town and Huddersfield Town in recent seasons, but is now looking to leave the Midlands permanently. However, a fee of £750,00 is likely to prove too much for the Dark Blues as they look to reinforce their back line.
