Reported transfer fee Portsmouth will pay Hull City for Abu Kamara revealed
Abu Kamara made 52 appearances and scored 10 goals in his 2023-24 loan season with the Blues
A possible transfer fee Pompey are poised to pay Hull City for Abu Kamara has emerged.
And it will once again demonstrate an increase in the Blues’ spending power this summer, following the multi-million-pound deals that were struck to bring both Marko Milovanovic and Rocco Shein to the club.
The striker and midfielder cost Pompey an initial outlay of around £5m, a sum that could increase significantly when potential add-ons to the Marezi deal are taken into consideration.
That figure is already more than the combined transfer fees paid last summer for the likes of Luke Le Roux, Josh Knight, Mark Kosznovszky, Josef Bursik and Franco Umeh.
And it’s set to rise even further, with Hull Live reporting that Pompey have agreed a fee in the region of £2.5m for Kamara.
The 23-year-old former Blues loanee moved to the MKM Stadium from Norwich in 2024 for a fee that could have risen to as high as £4.5m.
But with the winger, who signed a three-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months, struggling to make an impact at the Tigers during his two years at the club, it’s highly unlikely any add-on terms were met.
With that in mind, the Premier League new-boys are poised to make a loss on a player they battled hard to get in the aftermath of Pompey’s 2023-24 League One title success. It’s understood an initial downpayment of £3m was paid to action Kamara’s move from Carrow Road at the time.
Pompey to be reunited with Kamara in ‘next few days’
With Hull now back from their pre-season trip to Slovenia and Turkey, Hull Live are also reporting Kamara will head south for his Pompey medical.
That fits in with Fabrizio Romano’s update on the transfer, with the Italian reporting on Wednesday morning that the deal will be completed within the next few days.
The News, meanwhile, understands the player gave the move his approval after learning he was not part of manager Sergej Jakirovic’s Premier League plans despite featuring in Hull’s past three pre-season friendlies.
A change in representation also helped kick-start a process Pompey have been working hard on for some time while Charlton and Rangers also circled.
Barring any last-minute hiccups, Kamara will resume right-wing duties for the Blues at a time when the club have been crying out for someone to make that position their own.
At present, John Mousinho’s options for the role are Adrian Segecic, Harvey Blair and Franco Umeh.
Segecic’s preference is to play in the No10 role, however. Meanwhile, Blair and Umeh are either struggling for form or fitness.
