Joe Westley enjoying Joe Bevan's service at Dundee as duo brace for Aberdeen backlash The Dundee duo are looking to end Aberdeen's chances of winning the League Cup a week on from their 2-0 Premiership victory over Stephen Robinson's side at Dens Park Joe Westley is revelling in the chance to rekindle his Burnley connection with on-song Joe Bevan at Dundee after the pair downed the Dons in the Premiership. The pair first struck up at a bond at Turf Moor where they played for the Clarets’ age-group sides before striker Westley, 21, moved to Dens Park last summer. Bevan, 22, then followed him to Tayside in January but the winger had to be patient in his early months with the top flight club before making a blistering start to the current campaign. “Throughout the age groups at Burnley, we always had a little connection where I’ve always demanded chances off him,” said Westley, whose goal in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Aberdeen was set up by man-of-the-match Bevan. “I’ve always said to him, you need to cross me the ball. I think you can see I knew when he cut in there that that was the ball he was going to deliver. “He’s done brilliantly this season so far and hopefully he continues it. It’s a connection that we need to keep building, keep working on in training and hopefully he’ll create a lot of goals for me.” Westley admits Dundee, who will be without injured forward Ashley Hay for six weeks due to a knee injury, will have to be braced for a backlash from Aberdeen when the two sides meet again at Pittodrie in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday. “I think we’ll be expecting a reaction, that’s natural,” he said. “It’s probably the first time it’s ever happened for me, playing the same team back-to-back. “I’ve never experienced it but it’s the same players that we played last week, it’s the same club. It’s just about doing the things that we did last Saturday but to an even higher standard because we know we’ve got more in us. “I think that’s an exciting thing. It’s going to be a tough game but we’re fully in a headspace that we’re going there to try and win.”
