The search for a new club continues for a winger who trained with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer. Wanya Marçal, 23, was with The Owls at the start of pre-season and played in friendlies before leaving after not being able to earn himself a contract. The former Leicester City right winger then moved on to Peterborough United, the club he first started at, and made four appearances for them this summer. According to the Peterborough Telegraph, Posh manager Luke Williams did not rule out offering him a deal. When asked if the club were closer to making a decision on the winger, Williams said at the time: “I think so, there’s talent and pace there. We've had a discussion and we’re not quite in agreement about everything at the moment, but potentially we could see him join us.” However, the Portuguese was later spotted in action for Cambridge United against Norwich City in midweek. But manager Neil Harris has today confirmed Marcal is no longer with them, alongside another trialist. He called them ‘class acts’ and ‘very good characters’, but hinted he could not guarantee either of them regular first-team football week in, week out. A Portugal under-20s international who started out at Peterborough United before making the move to Leicester aged 12, Marçal was highly-rated as a youngster and featured on the bench in Europa League football as a teenager, going on to play 10 times for the Foxes at senior level, scoring a Championship goal in a win over Cardiff City early on in the 2023/24 campaign. A spell in Holland came the following season in 2024/25, where he made 15 appearances for De Graafschap. Having featured sporadically under both Brendan Rodgers and Enzo Maresca previously, Marçal featured on the bench on a number of occasions but did not play in the league last season as Leicester were relegated alongside Wednesday to League One.
