Hearts sign former Rangers player as Jambos injury sees club trigger free transfer move Hearts have signed the player most recently of Rangers as their latest summer transfer. Hearts have signed former Rangers goalkeeper Kieran Wright on a short-term deal. The 27-year-old has arrived at Tynecastle after an injury to Zander Clark prior to Thursday’s Europa League third round qualifier second leg versus Benfica. Clark wasn’t in the squad, and with a host of young keepers out on loan, the Premiership side have moved to recruit Wright as their third choice player amid their involvement in Europe. Hearts need to have three goalkeepers in their A-list for the Conference League play-off versus Rapid Vienna this month and Wright will take Clark’s spot. He will sit behind new signing Beau Reus and Ryan Fulton in the pecking order and a Hearts statement reads: “Goalkeeper Kieran Wright has joined the club on a deal to January. An experienced shotstopper, who counts the likes of Rangers, Livingston & Kilmarnock among his former clubs, Kieran will bolster the goalkeeping ranks domestically and for Europe. Welcome, Kieran!” Who is Kieran Wright? Wright spent 10 years at Rangers after coming through the academy, leaving earlier this summer. He didn’t make a competitive appearance but had numerous loans. A former Scotland youth international, Wright spent time with Gala Fairydean Rovers, Albion Rovers, Raith Rovers, Alloa Athletic on two occasions, Partick Thistle, Dumbarton, Livingston, Airdrie and most recently Kilmarnock last season before exiting Rangers at the end of his most recent contract. His most recent senior outings came with Airdrie and Diamonds coach David Hutton said of the goalkeeper upon his move to North Lanarkshire: “I’ve worked with Kieran before, he’s a hungry goalkeeper who was very keen to join the club when he heard of our interest. He’s good with his feet, and a great shot-stopper. You don’t spend that long at Rangers if you haven’t got a bit about you! I’m really looking forward to working with him - and I’m delighted that I’ve got two top goalies competing for the jersey.” The Jambos host Inverness CT in a Premier Sports Cup last 16 tie this weekend, following their 1-1 draw against Benfica midweek, losing 7-2 on aggregate. Head coach Wouter Vrancken said: "I think the performance was excellent today against a side with a lot of millions on the pitch. Maybe it's a pity that we drew because we could also win the game, but when you see the overall performance, it's amazing to see.
