But the news has left his Dutch club stunned, with Eindhoven chiefs insisting he could be back in action next week. Ibrox gaffer Derek McInnes thought he was primed to make the Moroccan wide man his 10th signing of the summer. He even welcomed the 24-year-old to Glasgow to watch Gers’ Europa League clash with Jagiellonia Bialystok on Thursday night. But as Driouech was being pictured in amongst fans at Ibrox, his big switch to Scotland was in the process of collapsing after Rangers chiefs were presented with the results of his medical exams in Manchester. Record Sport understands that a small thigh muscle tear was uncovered by a scan and while it is expected to keep Driouech out for only a short period, Rangers decided they could not afford to wait. McInnes and his team are already under pressure to improve after failing to win their first four games of the season - a run that leaves the Light Blues five points adrift in the title race already and spinning towards the Conference League after their 3-2 aggregate loss to Jagiellonia. The news has devastated Driouech, who had already shaken hands on a four year contract. And it’s left PSV bosses puzzled too, given they claim he could be ready for action with McInnes’ men next week. Speaking to the media in the Netherlands, PSV director Earnest Stewart said: "In short, we believed that Couhaib would be fit again very soon. He had suffered a minor injury and, in our opinion, would be able to play matches again within a week, or at least very soon.” Record Sport understands Rangers were informed Driouech would face around a six week lay off - and with McInnes desperate for attacking reinforcements have now decided to look elsewhere. Stewart added: ”It is all very unfortunate. Couhaib went to Scotland on Tuesday and was there for three days. He traveled with what we consider a minor injury. “They estimate the period he will be unable to play to be much longer than we do. From what I understood, six weeks. So we think it is considerably shorter. ”Couhaib is really upset about it. Very unfortunate. He was left in uncertainty for 48 hours. Everything was also postponed by a day, and he has barely been able to do anything. We are now getting a disillusioned player back. That is not nice." “During the four to six weeks in which they believe he is unavailable, the whole deal suddenly falls apart. This concerns a period of more than 200 weeks during which he would be under contract. After all, it was a four-year contract.” The clubs did discuss resurrecting the deal on a season-long loan option but that was quickly dismissed. Stewart continued: "This was going to be a permanent transfer, and that was not on the table." The news of the collapsed deal has come as another bitter blow for luckless McInnes and the frustrated Gers fanbase. Four games into the season and already the campaign looks to be unravelling. To make matters worse, star striker Youssef Chermiti has been ruled out for the season while McInnes faces a defensive crisis following injuries to Ben Godfrey and Tuur Rommens. The arrival of former Hearts full-back James Penrice from AEK Athens today should help on that front but the Driouech development is a headache Del can do without.
