Rangers have been accused of taking a ‘nonsensical position’ over Couhaib Driouech, with a move from PSV Eindhoven to Ibrox now off the table. Eindhovens Dagblad’s Rik Elfrink report on the failed transfer today. PSV are less than impressed by Rangers’ behaviour regarding the 24-year-old. Derek McInnes had wanted the arrival, but the Ibrox transfer is off. He was at Ibrox on Thursday, but a disagreement then arose between the clubs and the players. Scottish sources report that Driouech may be unavailable for a short period. This sparked a ‘major dispute’ over the matter. It’s been a turbulent week for Driouech. He travelled to Scotland on Tuesday ‘full of optimism’, with everything ready to go. PSV had an agreement with Rangers and only a medical could derail the deal. He underwent that medical in Manchester and was cleared as fit for the long-term. A disagreement then arose between Rangers and PSV. The Dutch side argued that Driouech could play in the short term, Rangers believed he was not immediately match ready. They wanted a ready-made replacement, a stance the Dutch side believed was ‘nonsensical’. The €8m deal, and verbal agreement, were then scrapped. The final word came from the club’s owner, after directors Grétar Steinsson and Dan Purdy had already struck a deal with PSV. Driouech is now set to return to the Netherlands. He’s the latest deal to collapse at PSV Eindhoven this year. Ricardo Pepi, Armando Obispo and Adamo Nagalo have all seen exits fall by the wayside for various reasons. Including Driouech, they were supposed to bring in around €55m. Instead, each has seen their transfers fail at the last minute, leaving them in limbo. Driouech is the latest to suffer after Rangers pulled out this week.
