Huddersfield Town have introduced ‘safe standing’ at the Accu Stadium for the start of the 2026-27 League One season. As fans return for the first game of the new campaign, one of the biggest changes will be safe standing across the Cowshed South Stand. The new area features a rail barrier fitted in front of the existing seating, with each supporter allocated a designated numbered position. Supporters will still have the option to sit, while the new set-up has been designed to improve comfort, safety, sight lines and accessibility. New P-Rail systems have also been installed in the upper tiers of both the Riverside and Terriers Together stands. These provide extra support when getting to and from seats in the steeper areas of the stadium, helping supporters feel more confident when navigating the stands. The safe standing areas have been completed by Huddersfield-based principal contractor Majestic Construction, the club’s Official Construction Partner. Majestic has completed a number of projects for the club over the past five years, including a new press box, more directors’ seats, large screen installation and water stations to reduce single use plastic bottles. Commenting on the project, Lee Marsden, owner and operator of Majestic Construction, said: “As a lifelong Huddersfield Town supporter, it has been a privilege to work alongside the club over the past five years, helping to deliver a range of improvements at the Accu Stadium. “This latest venture is one I am particularly passionate about. Safe standing creates an environment that allows supporters to enjoy the atmosphere football is renowned for while prioritising their safety. “We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in delivering another important development for the club and its fans, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it has throughout the season.” Meanwhile, there’s been other changes and improvements throughout the stadium including: new designs on the staircase of the Terriers Together Upper Tier; a permanent access ramp for wheelchair users in the South Stand; new paintwork for the corner pillars and banana trusses; and LED lighting improvements inside the stadium. Outside, work is on-going to improve the Fan Zone and re-configure the bar area to reduce waiting times and new safety bollards have been installed at the south end of the stadium site to improve security. Town’s head of supporter experience Robyn Kennerdale said: “With the full support and encouragement of chairman and owner Kevin Nagle, we’ve again taken the opportunity this summer to invest in improvements around the Accu Stadium ahead of the new season. “Our priority is making sure every supporter visiting HD1 feels safe, comfortable and able to enjoy their match day in whichever way works for them. “We’re delighted to see the long-awaited installation of safe standing across the Cowshed South Stand which will support our fans in generating the great atmosphere they do when in full voice. “We take huge pride in our home at the Accu Stadium and know our great supporters feel the same, so it’s great to have been able to build on the investments we’ve made over the last few seasons.”
