Ryan Ledson lays down Huddersfield Town challenge to team-mates Town recorded a ninth-placed finish last term and want a big improvement this year Huddersfield Town captain Ryan Ledson has tasked his side with “being better than last year” as they prepare to get their League One campaign underway. The Terriers host AFC Wimbledon at Accu Stadium on Saturday, as Town begin their third season back in League One. Town recorded a ninth-placed finish last term, and asked at a recent press conference what the club’s expectations were for the upcoming campaign, Ledson said: “I think for us really, it’s about being better than last year. “It probably was a disappointing season in the end, so we want to be better than last year, and striving for where we want to get to. “I think being more consistent (is where they need to improve). I think that was the outlook of last year, it’s consistently performing to the level that we know we can do. “The group of players in there are obviously a great group of players, I see it every single day, but it’s about performing on the pitch, and when it really matters, us picking points up and getting as many points as we can, and seeing where we end up.” “I think it’s up to us as a group of players, as staff, a playing unit, to get fans off their seats and get them excited again, and get that connection back with them,” the skipper added. “I think the last part of the season, I thought we were getting that. I’ve seen this place last year absolutely bouncing, and it’s a real tough place for people to come. I think the more we can do that, the more we can perform on the pitch, the more you get fans excited, and this year, I think what I’d like to see is us all being as one. “It’s a massive club, we all know it, so let’s all be on the same page, and that comes from us lads performing, and the fans doing what they do, and turning out in their numbers every single weekend, and I think if we get both of those, I think we’re going to be a strong force.” Reflecting on his side’s pre-season, Ledson said: “Really good, really positive, obviously with the new manager (Martin Drury) coming in. “Obviously he was there last year, but under his guide, with Steady (Jon Stead) and a few of the other coaches added in, it’s been really positive. “New faces, obviously new signings, a couple of lads gone, a couple of lads coming in – all in all, pre-season’s really the same. It’s about getting fit, and obviously pre-season games, and I think we’re all just looking forward to the competitive stuff starting really now.” Ledson will lead Town into a second season after being appointed as skipper last summer, and the captain added: “I think I’ve grown into the role, obviously coming into last season being at a club for so long, and then coming into a new club, and a brand new group of players, new staff, new surroundings, new everything. “I think it’s taken me time to get myself in and fill the shoes of being captain, but I thought I got stronger as the season went on, and I was playing some of my best football I’ve played, so for me on a personal point of view, it’s about carrying on that, and leading this club where we want to get to.”
