The moment all Portsmouth fan’s have been waiting for as Pompey begin their 26/27 Campaign at home against Queens Park Rangers. Pompey Team News Pompey fans were delighted with the announcement of Abu Kamara’s return to the club on a three year deal. Kamara was a vital part of Pompey’s League One winning side coming in on a loan from Norwich City, he made 52 appearances across all competitions and got 10 goals and 11 assists. However, the past two years haven’t been so straight forward for the 23 year old, in the Summer of 2024 he moved to Hull City for a fee of around £4 million he made 38 appearances and got five goals and three assists. His time at Hull will mostly be remembered for having to apologise for commenting on former teammate Paddy Lane’s post after losing a game for Hull. The winger would then go on a loan move to Spanish side Getafe, however his game time was very limited, largely because of a knee injury, Kamara only made 13 appearances and failed to get any goal contributions. Another new addition to John Mousinho’s team is the surprise loan signing of centre back Benjamin Arthur from Brentford. This signing comes after Luke Graham went to Stoke City instead of Pompey and Ibane Bowat has left to sign for Huddersfield Town. The 20 year old has very little experience in senior football making just seven appearances, four coming for Celtic in a loan move and three appearances in the cup for Brentford. Despite this Arthur is a very promising youngster with Brentford having future plans for him, also Phillip Martin reported that Celtic had a bid of £6 million rejected for the centre half this summer. Onto injuries The Portsmouth News has reported that Thomas Waddingham will be out for 6-10 weeks after being forced off at the London Stadium with an ankle injury. Also, Franco Umeh has had another injury blow after tearing his hamstring and will have another significant time out of action. Head-to-Head These two sides met back in March when QPR put six past the blues in a 6-1 thrashing at Loftus road, QPR trio Richard Kone, Rayan Kolli and Paul Smyth all scored a brace. The points were shared on boxing day 2025, when these two last met at Fratton Park, Terry Devlin gave Pompey the lead just before halftime before Jimmy Dunne earnt a point with his goal in the 61st minute. Before last season Pompey had a fairly positive record against QPR doing the double over them in the 24/25 season and getting a 2-0 away win in the 2019 Carabao Cup. Prediction Portsmouth 2-1 Queens Park Rangers This will be a good chance for revenge on the side that battered us 6-1 at Loftus Road, it is expected that Abu Kamara come’s straight into the side after having a full pre-season for Hull, which makes Pompey’s team a lot better and a lot more dangerous than last week this will hopefully mean that Adrian Segecic plays as the 10 to get more creativity and more players running at the defence. QPR were one of the most inconsistent sides last season winning a game 6-1 and losing a game 7-1 in the same season. Their side will be very similar to last season with dangerous attackers such as Richard Kone and Rumarn Durrell and some very solid defenders in Ronnie Edwards and Jimmy Dunne. One new signing who will be part of this QPR squad is Pierce Charles, who signed on loan from Manchester City. Whereas, new signing Dennis Cirkin and Tariq Lamptey are injury doubts.
