Here’s the Blues boss with his take. John Mousinho sees a Pompey future for Terry Devlin as he tipped his asset for an ‘exciting’ Championship campaign. The Blues boss admitted he’s surprised there hasn’t been a greater clamour for his right-back, after his big breakout season in the second tier. Mousinho: ‘I thought there was going to be more interest - but we’ve got an exciting season lying in wait for Terry.’ Mousinho believes tighter controls on spending amid the new Salary Cost Ratio (SCR) rules being implemented, could explain why there’s not been heavier interest in the Northern Ireland international. Devlin has been touted for a Fratton Park exit in the summer window, with Mousinho himself stating he anticipated clubs bidding for the 22-year-old. That’s after huge favourite stormed to player of the season plaudits and international recognition last term, in his third season at PO4. Wrexham made their interest in Devlin clear in January with a £2m bid rebuffed, as Pompey fought for their place in the Championship. The big-spending Welsh side never renewed their pursuit, instead turning to Crystal Palace’s Danny Imray who went to the Racecourse Ground in a £5m move. The News understands there’s been no firm interest in Devlin at this stage, with 18 days remaining until the transfer window closes. Mousinho can see a situation where teams don’t want to invest the kind of money on a right-back Pompey value their player at, as they deal with SCR changes. That’s something the Blues boss is pleased with, however, as the plans for a 2026-27 season with Devlin in the building. When asked if he thinks Devlin will stay now, Mousinho told The News: ‘I think so. ‘I thought there was going to be a bit more interest in Terry in the summer. ‘Maybe the issues around spending regulations has led clubs away from prioritising that position and going elsewhere. ‘I guess our valuation for Terry is fair but, maybe for a right-back there’s not a huge amount of clubs in the market for one (at that price). ‘But I’m absolutely delighted about that. ‘From my standpoint, if we do keep him, we’re keeping a Championship right-back and we’ve got an exciting season lying in wait for Terry.’ Mousinho pointed out Devlin staying at Pompey gives the chance for his club to continue to develop their asset and, potentially, their market value. There, of course, are contract considerations to weigh up with the former Glentoran man’s deal running until the summer of 2028. Mousinho added: ‘There’s always a temptation to sell a player when they’ve accumulated a little bit of value. ‘The benefit of being at this football club is we want to do things the right way. ‘We want to be sustainable in terms of how we spend our money, but there’s no pressure on us to sell.’
