'Truth be told...': Portsmouth boss John Mousinho's transfer admission as talks planned with Michael Eisner
John Mousinho last met the Blues chairman in person in November 2025
No transfer meetings are on the agenda when Michael Eisner returns to Fratton Park for the first time in nine months.
That’s according to John Mousinho, despite 19 days remaining before the summer recruitment window ends.
Pompey’s chairman is back on the south coast this weekend for the first time since November 2025 and will attend the Championship opener against QPR alongside son and fellow board member Eric.
It has been a busy transfer window for the Blues to date, with eight signings arriving, of which significant transfer fees have been paid for Marko Milovanovic, Abu Kamara and Rocco Shein.
There still remain gaps, however, with Mousinho targeting at least three more additions, with the loan signing of Ryan Kavuma-McQueen impending.
But while the Blues’ head coach is set to speak with the owners this weekend, he isn’t anticipating any ‘big summer meeting’ happening.
‘It’s a very short and fleeting one because of how busy the family are’
Mousinho told The News: ‘It’s a really welcome trip and one which we will look forward to.
‘It’s a very short and fleeting one because of how busy the family are, but spending a few days here will be absolutely brilliant, as well as taking in the first game of the season. I think it will be a really useful trip.
‘We’re going to meet and we are going to speak, but, truth to be told, we’ve been in constant dialogue throughout the summer between myself, Rich (Hughes), Andy (Cullen) and the board.
‘So it's not like all of a sudden we need this big summer meeting to discuss things which haven't been discussed - we are all very much in tune with what’s going on at the moment.
‘With the transfer meetings we have with Michael, Eric, any of the Eisner family and obviously the board as well, and sometimes we have to make decisions. But usually we’ve had to sign off the budgets.
‘The budgets are there, we know what we need to do, it’s just making sure that they are updated.’
Portsmouth chairman last visited in November 2025
Michael Eisner, who is now aged 84, last visited Fratton Park in November 2025 for a Championship clash with Wrexham which finished as a goalless draw.
Although Eric previously attended Pompey’s final match of last season against Birmingham, albeit as the sole representative of the Eiser family on the trip.
During his stay, the board member held key meetings with Andy Cullen, Rich Hughes and Mousinho over the Blues’ ambitions, having secured a third successive season in the Championship.
Mousinho added: ‘There are sometimes bits and bobs here and there which we need to make sure we run by and double check with the board.
‘Sometimes that’s maybe one of those transfers which fall outside of the budget or something which isn’t quite in line with what we were previously doing or if you’ve picked up an injury and all of sudden you need to maybe go back and ask for a bit more money.
‘Those are the sort of things, those sort of discussions, which we’ve had. By and large, everything has already been agreed.’
