Portsmouth secure ninth signing of transfer window after deal struck for Chelsea forward Ryan Kavuma-McQueen Ryan Kavuma-McQueen has been announced as Pompey’s eighth signing of the transfer window Pompey have completed their anticipated move for Chelsea youngster Ryan Kavuma-McQueen. The Blues have unveiled the forward as their ninth signing of the transfer window, with the teenager joining on a season-long loan from the Premier League heavyweights. He’s also Pompey’s third new addition of the week, after Abu Kamara completed his return to Fratton Park for a fee in the region of £2.5m from Hull City on Monday. That was then followed by the loan arrival of centre-back Benjamin Arthur on Wednesday. Along with Kamara, Kavuma-McQueen will bolster John Mousinho’s forward options for their 2025-26 Championship campaign which kicks off against QPR on Saturday. For last Saturday’s Carabao Cup defeat at West Ham, the Blues were without the injured Josh Murphy, Keshi Anderson, Harvey Blair and Franco Umeh. That led to New Zealand teenager Luke Brooke-Smith making his full Pompey debut at the London Stadium, just weeks after completing his move from A-League side Wellington Phoenix. Kavuma-McQueen arrives having been on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia. The England under-17 international played 45 minutes of Xavi Alonso’s side’s opening game against Western Sydney Wanderers on July 28, registering an assist in a 6-4 win. However, he failed to feature in any of the remaining four games of the tour, including Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Johor DT on Sunday. Seventeen-year-old Kavumua-McQueen made his senior Chelsea debut as a second-half substitute in the London Blues’ 7-0 FA Cup demolition of Port Vale in April. Last season he featured 14 times for the Stamford Bridge side in Premier League 2, registering five goals and three assists. Kavuma-McQueen’s loan move to Pompey represents his first spell away from Chelsea since joining them as a seven-year-old. He’s under contract at Chelsea until 2028.
