Mousinho: ‘Not a player making his trade in lower leagues long term’ The Blues this afternoon completed the capture of Kavuma-McQueen on a season-long deal from the Londoners, as he became the club’s ninth summer signing. Kavuma-McQueen is Pompey’s second loan capture, with Benji Arthur arriving from Brentford on a deal scheduled for the same period earlier this week. The Chelsea attacker is seen as one of the leading lights on a conveyor belt of talent, which continues to emerge from the Londoner’s Cobham base. That’s despite Kavuma-McQueen turning 17 in January, with the Londoner already delivering an impressive array of goal contributions at under-18 and under-21 level. That led to his first-team breakthrough last season and the versatile attacker being involved in the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia. Mousinho sees a player who can go on to great things and a talent which will be an asset for Pompey this season. The Blues head coach believes Kavuma-McQueen can be ready to impact the Premier League in the short term - and his club’s challenge is to help a player with prodigious ability to achieve his ambitions. Mousinho told The News: ‘It’s a big thing for me to say (he’ll be ready for the Premier League in 12 months). ‘But when you have the career trajectory of a young player like Ryan, who’s had such an early career touching the first team at the age of 17. When you play minutes for the first team at 17 (he is making quick progress). ‘I have no control over what he does in 12 months’ time, but that’s our goal - our goal for the loans we take is for them to be ready to play for their parent club when they return. ‘Chelsea are a Premier League team, so I hope he’s ready when he goes back from this loan. ‘You take your time with youngsters and that’s great, but some players who burst on to the scene are young and ready to go. ‘If you are good enough to play it shouldn’t be an issue, but we’ll see. ‘I’m not going to put too much pressure on the lad, but I certainly don’t think he’s a player who will be making his trade in the lower leagues in the long term.’
