Morris, Joseph, Strelec and more - Middlesbrough injury update for Lincoln league opener Kim Hellberg provides a Middlesbrough injury update ahead of Lincoln City Kim Hellberg will have some 50-50 decisions to make with his Middlesbrough team selection for this weekend’s league opener against Lincoln City, but assures things are now looking a lot better on the injury front. Boro have had a large group of first-team players missing during the course of pre-season, many of whom were still recovering from injuries picked up at the end of last term. While that showed as far as the squad depth was concerned, Boro were still able to start their new campaign with an encouraging cup victory over Wrexham last weekend. Now, however, as Lincoln visit for the first league game of the season, things really step-up. But the Boro boss admits, at least for this weekend, there’s a couple he may have to do without. Offering an update, Hellberg said: “I think we are in a position where, next week, we should have pretty much everyone apart from Tommy [Conway] back on the pitch. “We have some 50-50 calls to make for the weekend, on Aidan [Morris], for example. I don’t know about him yet, it will be a 50-50 call on whether it’s this game or the next one. “I think David [Strelec] is in a similar position. I don’t think it’s this game for him, but he will start training next week. It’s looking much better. “Riley [McGree], Alfie [Jones] and Myles [Peart-Harris] have trained fully, but that’s only been for a couple of days. So, again, we will have to see how we use them. “But it is definitely looking much, much better for us because everyone apart from Tommy should be back next week and able to train fully. Although, again, they are coming from different places so they will have different pathways for a little while.” One player who’s a little further ahead then the rest is Kyle Joseph, who joined Boro this summer from Hull City off the back of missing the play-off final having had to undergo ankle surgery. Thankfully, his recovery has been quick at the versatile striker was able to resume full training at the start of last week. That meant he was able to come on for what proved a bright cameo in that Wrexham cup win. Asked how close he now is to being physically ready to start games, the Boro boss said: “Again, it is a balance with him. He had a little bit longer training than some of the others. “He started back a bit earlier, so he was able to have that bit of time against Wrexham. I thought he looked sharp when he was running, and he has had a very strong week here training. “He’s not ready to play 90 minutes, but you can use that in different ways. He could start a game and then come off, or he could start on the bench and come in. He’s not ready to play 90, but he’s in a position where he could play more than he did against Wrexham.” ------------- Get Teesside Live Premium now for just £1 HERE – exclusive Boro news and features, transfer notebooks, comment and analysis from Eric Paylor, plus an ad-lite experience Join our WhatsApp community to get all the breaking news and best analysis sent straight to your phone by clicking here to subscribe.
