Hull City deal for Everton's ex-Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam 'close' after £15m+ bid
An update regarding Hull City interest in Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has emerged
Hull City are reportedly close to signing midfielder Tim Iroegbunam from Everton after tabling an offer worth over £15m.
The Tigers have been linked with the 23-year-old throughout the summer following their promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
He has also been reported as a target for Ipswich Town and Coventry City, who escaped the second tier along with Hull last term.
However, after months of speculation, Hull appear to be in pole position to sign the former England youth international.
Hull City transfer update emerges
According to BBC Radio Humberside’s James Hoggarth, Hull and Everton are close to striking an agreement following a bid exceeding £15m.
Posting on X, he said: “No confirmation yet that Everton have accepted Hull City's offer (£15m+) for Tim Iroegbunam. I understand that both parties are very close, and it's just the finer details that are being ironed out.”
Iroegbunam joined Everton from Aston Villa two years ago, making the move to Merseyside in a deal said to be worth £9m.
He has since made 52 appearances for the Toffees, 29 of which came in the last Premier League season.
Tim Iroegbunam potential
In 2022, Iroegbunam’s then-Villa boss Steven Gerrard claimed he had the attributes required to become a “top Premier League player”.
As reported by Birmingham Live, he said: “I think you can see the profile, what he is going to become. He can get around the grass quickly, he can cover ground quickly, he’s aggressive. He’s a real good professional, he needs to find his voice and come out of his shell now.
“He’s got all the attributes to be a top Premier League player in my opinion. We’ll keep working to develop him, he’s got a real exciting future ahead of him.”
