Preston North End at scrambling to get signings through the door as the new season approaches.
With some rumoured to be ‘close’, there’s one public rumour doing the rounds that seems to have legs.
PNE have reportedly put in a bid to sign Hull City’s Cody Drameh, with the full-back becoming of interest to the Lancashire club once again.
According to Sky Sports’ Josh Gardner, Preston have submitted a £1m bid for the 24-year old.
Drameh has one year left on his deal in East Riding, it’s also thought a few more Championship clubs are weighing up a move for the full-back with Preston making the first move.
A part of Hull’s mesmerising promotion dream, the former Leeds man made 16 starts in 22 last season, failing to nail a place down in the first time over Lewie Coyle, an instrumental figure in their shock season.
Drameh’s Style of Play
He’s an energetic full-back who is very comfortable in pushing up from his position, overlapping, and causing an overload in wide areas.
Defensively, Drameh loves a tackle – thought to be a very aggressive and take a front-footed approach to his defending.
Looking back to his last season of consistent minutes (2023/24), making 30 total appearances for Birmingham City, this gives us a good indication of his capabilities.
187 defensive contributions, 81 tackles (3.21 per 90), 143 recoveries, 155 duels won – these display his ability in one-on-one situations and his proactivity in his defending, suggesting that Preston might have a Darnell Fisher replacement at long lost.
Offensively: 31 successful dribbles, 21 chances created, 65 accurate long balls, and won possession 11 times in the final third – taking the aggressive approach into his attacking positioning.
In terms of weaknesses, you have to look at his crossing, with only four successful crosses and a 10.3% success rate and hasn’t got better last season with only three (11.1%).
How Much Would He Cost?
Drameh would be an upgrade on Pol Valentin, respectfully, although it would provide much needed depth in that position.
Last year, PNE seemed hesitant to pay the £1m fee for the full-back, who was heavily linked with a move to Deepdale.
Now, that might be enough to finally see him at Deepdale, with Heckinbottok adding a full-back who is decent one-on-one defender and comfortable venturing forth from his position.
