Sheffield United face potential transfer blow with Wrexham 'hoping' to sign Harry Souttar from Leicester City
Sheffield United could reportedly be pipped to the post in a transfer race
Sheffield United could reportedly lose out to Wrexham in the race to sign Harry Souttar from Leicester City.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a raft of clubs since Leicester’s relegation from the Championship at the end of last season.
He had a productive loan spell at Sheffield United during the 2024/25 season and the Blades are keen for a reunion with the imposing centre-back.
Harry Souttar latest
Recent reports indicated Sheffield United were closing in on Souttar’s signature but Mail Online have suggested Wrexham could march to the front of the queue.
The Red Dragons are said to be hoping to close a deal this weekend having offered around £7.5m for the defender.
It would be a bitter blow for Sheffield United to see Souttar head elsewhere, particularly if his destination is another Championship club.
Leicester City’s stance
Amid transfer speculation, Souttar captained Leicester to a Carabao Cup win over Northampton Town last weekend.
Earlier this week, when questioned about Souttar’s future, Foxes boss Russell Martin told Sky Sports: “With Harry, I don't know. He captained the team on Saturday [and] he will captain the team this Saturday.
“He's been amazing since I've been in, since he came back from the World Cup. He's a proper character so it wouldn't surprise me that people are interested in him.”
Sheffield United’s summer business
It has not been a particularly busy summer on the transfer front at Bramall Lane, much to the frustration of supporters.
The Blades have signed defender Matt Doherty on a permanent deal following his Wolverhampton Wanderers exit and loaned in Kalvin Phillips and Romelle Donovan from Manchester City and Brentford respectively.
On the outgoings front, Sheffield United have lost midfielder Gustavo Hamer to Coventry City and winger Andre Brooks to Norwich City.
