The 39-year-old is a free agent having left Italian outfit Cremonese at the end of last season and has an emotional connection to the Owls. He became a legend at Leicester City, scoring 200 goals for the Foxes between 2012 and 2015, but it was in South Yorkshire that his story began. Vardy supported Wednesday in his youth and was cut loose by their academy as a teenager. He later enjoyed a stunning rise through the pyramid, starring for Stocksbridge Park Steels, FC Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town before joining Leicester. Sheffield Wednesday interested in Jamie Vardy The former England international was linked with Wednesday earlier in the summer and Storch has now admitted there is interest. He told talKSPORT: “At some point, I’ll be able to tell a story. This might not be the right time. But yeah, Jamie is somebody we would like to have in our club. “Let’s just say he’d be someone we’d be thrilled to have on the club, and unfortunately we do have these restrictions. We’re trying to figure out how to get around the restrictions to put something in front of Jamie that would make sense for him.” Prospect of Jamie Vardy return Vardy would most likely need to take a wage cut to rejoin his boyhood club and has poured cold water on the prospect of a homecoming. When asked about the possibility of a Wednesday return in June, Vardy replied: “In short, no. It's one of them things, I've always said that once I was let go then that chapter was kind of...shut. That's just me, that's how I am. It wasn't meant to be so it's never meant to be, kind of thing.” West Ham United have also been linked with Vardy and the Hammers would arguably be able to put something more lucrative on the table. However, the Hillsborough faithful will be hoping the emotional appeal of the Owls proves strong.
