Former Villa, Wolves and West Brom frontman makes League Two transfer The frontman’s career has taken him to the fourth tier after departing Derby at the end of last season. Cheltenham have announced the signing of former Villa, Albion and Wolves striker Andreas Weimann on a free transfer. Weimann, 35, was out of contract with the Rams in the summer, having a spell on loan at his boyhood club Rapid Vienna last season. Cheltenham manager Steve Cotterill feels Weimann, who also had stints with Derby, Watford, Bristol City and Blackburn, will add some experience to his Sky Bet League Two squad. “Andreas brings proven quality to the squad. He has played at a consistently high level throughout his career as well as for his country,” Cotterill said on the Cheltenham website. “He has some excellent qualities and we believe he will complement our attacking options well.” Austrian Weimann played 91 times for Villa from 2009-15, with 17 games for Wolves in 2017 and four for Albion, in 2024, the latter two on loan deals. He was a free agent after the expiration of his Derby contract earlier this summer. “I am delighted to get it done, I can’t wait to get going," he told the club site. “I’ve had some really good conversations with the manager, I’m excited by what’s to come and I want to help as much as I can.” He added: "I still have a lot of football left in me and I am still pretty fit, so hopefully I can give a lot on the pitch.”
