Chris Davies is targeting up to three new players at Birmingham City – and hinted a new signing will arrive before Blues take on Sheffield United on Saturday. Blues have signed five players in the transfer window to date and are still targeting a midfielder and two forwards, including a left-winger after Ibrahim Osman returned to Brighton following a successful loan spell. BirminghamLive reported on Thursday morning that Bristol City’s Max Bird has emerged as a target for the midfield vacancy in Davies’ squad. Gelhardt has spent the last 18 months on loan at Hull City and scored 15 goals last term to help the Tigers win promotion to the Premier League. There were doubts as to whether Hull would sign Gelhardt on a permanent deal, which briefly opened the door to Blues, but they have made their move for the 24-year-old and now look set to wrap up a deal. Asked about Gelhardt, Davies commented: “I know there’s been a lot of speculation but it will become clearer in time. He certainly had a great season last season and there will be a lot of teams interested in Joe for what he’s done, but we focus on what we’ve got here and trying to make sure we start the league season well.”
