Birmingham City agree transfer with rivals to complete sixth summer signing Max Bird has joined Birmingham City from Championship rivals Bristol City Birmingham City have completed the signing of midfielder Max Bird from Bristol City on a three-year contract. Bird has become Blues’ sixth summer addition following the arrivals of Jhon Solis, Dael Fry, James Beadle, Luis Vazquez and Kristoffer Lund and could make his debut in the Championship opener at Sheffield United on Saturday evening. All the latest Blues news on Birmingham Live’s Birmingham City FC Facebook page After starting out at Derby County, where he debuted as a 16-year-old in a Carabao Cup tie in 2017, Bird has become one of the most sought after midfielders in the Championship with Bristol City. He only played 15 league games last season due to injury, scoring twice, but he was a mainstay in the Robins side that reached the play-offs under Liam Manning in 2024/25. Bird notched one goal and registered eight assists from midfield in that particular campaign. Having proved his fitness in pre-season, Bird started Bristol City’s Carabao Cup defeat to Walsall last week and should be ready to bolster Blues from the get-go. Bird has played the majority of his football as an advanced midfielder for the Robins but he has also operated at the base of midfield during his career to date. “We’re delighted to have brought Max to the club,” said Blues boss Chris Davies. “He brings a significant amount of Championship experience and has been part of teams that have enjoyed success. “He’s also captained Derby on several occasions, so he brings leadership qualities and a good understanding of what is required to compete consistently in this league. “On the pitch, Max can contribute at both ends. He can break up attacks and win the ball back, but he can also create scoring opportunities and contribute offensively with the way he passes forward. “He gives us versatility in an important area and has a really good profile for what we need. We’re delighted to have him on board and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
