"They're in our division now and he played a part in a brilliant season for Lincoln City, winning the League One title. “He's had a good pre-season, came on the pitch on Sunday for 20-25 minutes and showed glimpses of what he can achieve. "We can't rely on him to play 46 games in hopefully a successful Championship campaign but we need the balance of the squad and the strength in depth. “He can play off the left, off the right, down the middle as well. "There are no gimmies, no straightforward passes. But yet again, our academy is producing players Hopefully Ryan kicks on and has another successful season.” Rangers’ interest in the Scottish Under-21 forward was sparked by an anterior cruciate ligament injury to Youssef Chermiti. Recruitment has paused since the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips – only their third summer signing – this week, but Wilder is still optimistic about 2026-27. "I'm really excited about what we can achieve, excited to get back to Bramall Lane and the atmosphere, how it will be with supporters missing the football,” he said. "I want to coach, I want to manage. There's a process to strengthen our squad. Every manager in the division will say they don't enjoy this period because of the uncertainty. "I don't envisage us losing anybody (in his plans), I don't want to lose anybody, I want to build. I want to build a good team. "It's a well balanced group, it's competitive, it's got a good mentality, physically we've improved. "We have to carry that out on the biggest stage still knowing that we have to replace Gus and I do believe in one position (centre-back) the number six shirt is still up for grabs. "I would like to (fill) that as soon as possible but it's not as easy as people sometimes think it is."
