Wigan Athletic swoop for Manchester City defender - 'It's a massive club' New signing Finley Burns can't wait to get going at a 'massive club' in Wigan Athletic, after joining from Manchester City on a three-year deal. The 23-year-old centre-back, who stands an imposing 6'5 in height, has plenty of EFL experience, following loan spells at Swansea City, Stevenage, Hull City and Reading. He has also represented England at junior level between Uner-16s and Under-20s, and can't wait to get going at the Brick Community Stadium. "I'm delighted to be here, and it's amazing to get the deal done," he said. "It's something we've been working on for a little while, having spoken to the gaffer a few times, so it's nice to finally have it done. "After those conversations, it was a project I could see myself involved in, but I see this as a massive club. When I was growing up as a kid, I knew them in the Premier League, so that was big as well. "The gaffer stressed the playing style and how he works...he worked in the (Manchester) City Group previously, so we have a similar view of how we should play. "I loved my time at City, I enjoyed every moment – good and bad, highs and lows, – and I’ll be forever thankful for what they’ve done for my career. "The loans I’ve had have also been very insightful in terms of helping me to mature as a person and as a player, learning how to battle every day and to get the most out of the ability I have." Burns has been handed the No.5 shirt vacated over the summer by Steven Sessegnon, and says he’s relishing the opportunity of becoming a leader in the group. "Especially in my position, you do want to be that commanding leader in the side, and hopefully help the side throughout the season. "This is a very talented young group, with a few experienced leaders, and I hope I can play my part in both groups. "It’s an exciting time to be joining the club...the games come thick and fast, on a Saturday or a Tuesday, and and I can’t wait to get going.”
