Wigan Athletic midfielder joins Jonny Smith at Rochdale Baba Adeeko has joined former Wigan Athletic team-mate Jonny Smith at Rochdale on a one-year deal. The 23-year-old midfielder was made available for transfer at the end of last season by Gary Caldwell. And just 10 days after Smith swapped the Brick Community Stadium for Spotland on a two-year contract, Adeeko has followed suit. “I’m happy and delighted that it’s finally done," he said. “Me and Jonny sat next to each other in the changing rooms at Wigan, I talked to him before I came and he had nothing but good things to say about the club. “The coaches told me what the want to achieve this season and how they want to play which really suits my game. I can’t wait to be on the pitch. "It’s always nice when a gaffer has trust and confidence in you, and I hope I can repay that faith here. "I spent 12 years at Wigan – half of my life really - and it’s shaped me into the person and player I am now. "It was up and down, and hopefully I can use the experience I picked up there for the rest of my career. Rochdale head coach Ian Watson added: “We’re delighted to get Baba in. “He’s played a lot of games in League One and has been an amazing player at Wigan. We think he can push this club in the direction we want to go in. “Out of possession he gives us that steel, he can handle the ball well and we hope he can progress to an even better footballer here.” Latics boss Gary Caldwell expects fellow midfielder Tobias Brenan to move on before the transfer deadline, although Ronan Darcy – another player made available for transfer back in May – remains in limbo. "There's nothing fresh to report on Ronan at the moment," revealed Caldwell. "Tobias has also potentially got something, so we'll see how that develops as well. "So there's still going to be outs from the club, as well as the ins that we'll continue to push for between now and the transfer deadline." Caldwell also confirmed trialist Tom McIntyre has left the club, although Scott Hogan will continue to train with the group in the hope of winning a permanent contract.
