Coventry City's pre-season campaign continued with a 1-1 draw in a behind-closed-doors friendly against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns. Frank Lampard's side have had a mixed bag in pre-season so far, with a defeat in Marbella to AFC Wimbledon, a 0-0 draw with Northampton, and a 1-0 win over Leicester City. They have high-profile friendly games against Espanyol and Monaco on the horizon as they look to build up form and fitness ahead of their much-anticipated return to the Premier League. This latest game against the Baggies was a chance to get more game time in the players' legs and start to give Frank Lampard a firmer idea of the players edging towards the first-team starting positions. How Coventry City reported the game on their website Coventry City continued to build up their minutes with a draw against West Bromwich Albion in a behind-closed-doors friendly at The Hawthorns. Loum Tchaouna’s excellent strike gave City the lead but Jimmy-Jay Morgan replied 15 minutes later in a well contested match. FIRST HALF The first chance of the game fell to City when Raphael skipped inside the area and arrowed in a shot but his effort was saved by Max O’Leary. Albion had a decent opportunity on 13 minutes when Aune Heggebo got on the end of a cross but couldn’t direct his header on target. Ellis Simms came close when Josh Eccles slid the ball into his path but he fizzed his effort wide of the post. The Baggies almost opened the scoring after a bit of pinball in the box saw the ball fall to Morgan who lashed it goalwards from close range but Ben Wilson got in the way to make a great save. The Sky Blues took the lead on 26 minutes when Tchaouna rifled the ball into the far corner with a fierce effort from an angle. The hosts equalised on 41 minutes when Morgan skipped towards the area and arrowed the ball into the bottom corner. SECOND HALF Albion had the first chance of the second half when the ball was cut back across to Isaac Price but he curled his shot just wide of the mark. They almost turned the game on its head on the hour when Price’s blocked shot fell to Tammer Bany who struck the crossbar. The Sky Blues came close to scoring the winner in the final ten minutes when Brandon Thomas-Asante's shot cannoned off the post before Miguel Angel Brau’s fierce drive took a deflection and hit the side-netting. Coventry looked the more likely in the closing stages but couldn’t find a winner. How WBA reported the game on their website Albion rounded off pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Premier League Coventry City at The Hawthorns on Tuesday evening. Behind closed doors, James Morrison's side started far more brightly than their top-flight opponents, creating four brilliant chances in the opening 15 minutes. Jimmy-Jay Morgan, Ousmane Diakité and Aune Heggebø each had opportunities that narrowly missed the target before Isaac Price's low drive had Coventry keeper Ben Wilson scrambling across his goal. However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when Loum Tchaouna fired home from a tight angle with 26 minutes on the clock. However, the Baggies were undeterred and continued to create openings before netting a deserved equaliser. It came when Morgan latched onto a loose pass and drove forward, sliding his strike under Wilson from 18 yards. In the second half, Morrison's men continued to impress despite making eight changes at the break. Price and substitute Tammer Bany each took aim, with Bany forcing a good save and then hitting the crossbar shortly after his introduction. The next action saw the visitors hit the post through Brandon Thomas-Asante in the 82nd minute, but Matt Ingram seemed to have the strike covered. Coventry threatened with two more late efforts, but these were both deflected away from danger, ensuring Albion concluded pre-season with a positive result at The Hawthorns. James Morrison's squad will be in competitive action for their next match as they take on Rotherham United at the ASSEAL New York Stadium in the Carabao Cup on Saturday.
