Italian giants AC Milan have announced the departure of two Nigerian players Victor Eletu and Zachary Athekame ahead of the start of the upcoming 2026/2027 campaign. Athekame, who is eligible to represent Nigeria and Switzerland, joined the Rossoneri last summer following an impressive campaign with Swiss club Young Boys. The young fullback enjoyed a decent debut season in Italy, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 27 league appearances. Despite his performances, Athekame has struggled to impress new manager Ruben Amorim during pre-season as he adapts to his new system. The former Manchester United manager has preferred to deploy Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze in the wing-back position, making it difficult for Athekame to secure regular playing time ahead of the new campaign. AC Milan confirmed the move in a statement on the club's official website, with Athekame set to spend the 2026/2027 campaign with Lyon on loan. Meanwhile, the Italian giants also announced the permanent departure of former Flying Eagles winger Victor Eletu, who has joined Pescara Calcio after struggling to break into the first team. Eletu, who featured for Milan's youth sides, will now move to Pescara in search of regular first-team football with the Serie C club. Ahead of the start of the campaign, Eletu will be keen to impress at Pescara, revive his career and continue his growth and development. Adeyemi Adewale
