Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario could be on his way to Juventus this summer.
According to Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, they may be forced to turn back to the Spurs star after failing with moves for Emiliano Martinez and Zion Suzuki.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is comfortable with Antonin Kinsky as his first-choice goalkeeper, making Vicario surplus to requirements.
The Italian club would prefer a loan deal, but Spurs want him off the books permanently.
Vicario enjoyed an ‘outstanding‘ first season with Tottenham, but his form nosedived in his second campaign and worsened last season.
Kinsky took the starting berth towards the end of last season, and he will be the club’s number one going forward.
Spurs have already signed Martin Dubravka on a free transfer, and he is expected to be the club’s deputy to Kinsky.
Tottenham should be firm in their negotiations with Juventus
If they view Vicario as the solution to their problem, Spurs should not agree to a temporary loan that could leave them facing the same situation next summer.
A loan could make sense for Juventus, but Tottenham need a more permanent solution.
If an agreement cannot be reached for an outright transfer this summer, the club should at least insist on an obligation to buy being included in any loan deal.
That would allow Juventus to spread the financial commitment while giving Spurs certainty that Vicario will leave permanently at the end of the season.
With the club’s plans for the future already in place, there is little reason for Tottenham to keep Vicario around beyond this summer.
