Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard produced another lively performance during the pre-season friendly against Como yesterday. The Norway international had a good World Cup with four assists to his name and has carried on to impress for the Gunners. He had a good 30-minute cameo on his return for pre-season against Borussia Dortmund, and fared even better against Como. Odegaard replaced Ethan Nwaneri at the interval against the Serie A outfit. The 27-year-old had a passing accuracy of 97 percent (33/34), winning 100 percent of his duels (4/4). He also created three chances for his teammates, including a big one for Fabio Vieira, who should have found the back of the net. Odegaard had a difficult 2025/26 season plagued by multiple injuries, and he ended the season with just nine goal involvements. Still, the Gunners skipper played a huge part in the title triumph. He bagged a quality assist for Gabriel Magalhaes’ dramatic winner at Newcastle United. In the closing stages in May, Odegaard stepped up to create the chance which contributed to Leandro Trossard’s heroic winner at West Ham United. Odegaard is one of the best playmakers in the league when in top form and fitness, and he appears to be getting back to his best for the new season. With Bruno Guimaraes being brought in, the Brazilian’s positioning and quick link-up play should provide more freedom for Odegaard in the final third. Arsenal take on Manchester City in the Community Shield at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday, and Odegaard looks poised to make the starting XI. Ethan Nwaneri has had a good second half to the pre-season, but Odegaard should make the line-up on the back of his 45-minute showing yesterday. Stats from Sofascore.com
