Manchester United made life quite easy for Celta Vigo when negotiating Altay Bayindir’s summer exit. The goalkeeper joined the Spanish club on loan last week, with a purchase option included in the deal. Now Celta director of football Marco Garcés has revealed some interesting details about the agreement, detailed in Thursday’s print edition of Faro de Vigo. Speaking at Bayindir’s presentation, Garcés confirmed United are still paying part of the 28-year-old’s wages. Manchester United agreed unusual loan structure Altay Bayindir’s move also includes a loan fee, although Celta may not have to pay all of it. “If there is a loan payment, it is reduced according to everything he plays. We have a purchase option and, on top of that, United cover part of his wages,” Garcés said. That first part makes this a slightly unusual arrangement. The more Bayindir plays in Spain, the less Celta ultimately pay for the loan. And he will play, no doubt about that. Garcés also thanked Manchester United for the help they provided during negotiations. He believes the Turkish international will increase competition in goal as Celta prepare to fight on three fronts. For United, the priority appears to have been getting Bayindir somewhere he can actually play. He had other possibilities this summer, but the goalkeeper says one conversation quickly settled his future. “Obviously, I had other options, but I knew the history of the club and, after speaking with Claudio, Celta were my only option,” Bayindir said. “I spoke to my agent about coming here and giving everything for this club.” Bayindir explains why Celta won him over Altay Bayindir also admitted the opportunity to experience La Liga appealed to him. Celta’s participation in the Europa League played a part too. He now has to compete with Andrei Radu for the starting spot, and there is no guarantee he will immediately become first choice. It gives Bayindir a route to regular football and Celta a relatively low-risk way to assess him. Manchester United, meanwhile, have done their bit to help the move happen.
