Leeds edge towards new transfer with big Nico Elvedi update amid imminent exit

Leeds United are hopeful that they can tie up a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, as the club responds to Sebastiaan Bornauw’s imminent exit to Hamburg. The Whites would ideally like to line up a replacement for Bornauw before formally sanctioning his move, and appear to have acted quickly on the list of centre-back transfer options they ringfenced. Elvedi has more than 300 games of Bundesliga experience plus 73 caps for Switzerland at age 29. He played 34 times under Daniel Farke during his season-long spell as Gladbach manager during the 2022/23 season. The 6ft 2in defender is right-footed but can play in the left centre-back slot. He played in all of Switzerland’s games en route to the World Cup quarter-finals this summer. Elvedi - who has been at Gladbach for 15 years - has a year left on his contract and Leeds sources state it is likely that a deal will be struck for him. Elvedi has 15 Champions League appearances under his belt, his last appearance in the competition coming five years ago. Meanwhile, Bornauw’s forthcoming exit has been sparked from the player’s side. The Belgian started just five Premier League games last season following his £5million switch from Wolfsburg last summer. After Leeds’ friendly with Manchester United on Wednesday, Farke indicated he would have liked to keep Bornauw but confirmed: “Out of respect to him and what he has done so far - because he's always a top professional - we are also of course considering what he wants.” FOLLOW OUR LUFC FACEBOOK PAGE!
