Leeds United can sign Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach for just €10m, after reaching a verbal agreement with the centre-back. Deal advancing Sport Witness covered a report from Germany yesterday explaining that Nico Elvedi was one step closer to moving to Elland Road. He now has a verbal agreement in place with Daniel Farke’s side, who are expected to make on offer soon. Gladbach executive Rouven Schröder (50) has not yet received a concrete offer from the English side. However, it has been made clear that Borussia will sanction a deal starting at €10m. That’s because Elvedi’s current deal expires in a year’s time. Any money coming in for a sale is better than a free transfer in a year’s time. They had hoped for things to be different this summer. Coach Eugen Polanski (40) and centre-back Kevin Diks even went public with their desire for Elvedi to stay. Gladbach disappointment At the end of a recent training camp, Polanski even went as far as to appoint Elvedi as vice-captain. That was to show him “you are important, we are counting on you; please extend your contract.” He even made that clear when asked about the issue. “Nico is an absolute leader on the pitch—and he is with us. Naturally, we hope it stays that way,” he said. Diks was of a similar mind. “I love Nico. Of course, I’m aware of the rumours that he might leave, but if I could wish for anything, it would be for him to stay with us,” he added. However, the situation is now developing, thanks to HSV Hamburg’s desire to sign Sebastian Bornauw. If the defender departs Leeds United, Farke and co are determined to sign Elvedi as his replacement. With a personal agreement now in place, that’s becoming closer. And they only need €10m to get a deal done.
