Hull 'confident of signing exciting Bundesliga midfielder' as Newcastle star targeted Hull City are expected to stay active in the final weeks of the summer window, which closes on September 1. Hull City remain confident of landing Augsburg midfielder Mert Komur despite seeing a €10million (£9m) offer knocked back. The newly promoted Premier League side have made strong progress on the player side, with Komur understood to have agreed personal terms. Eight signings have already come through the door this summer - Matt Targett, Hidemasa Morita, Elliot Stroud, Jack Butland, Jens Hjerto‑Dahl, Lucas Herrington, Konstantinos Tzolakis and Nobel Mendy, with Joe Gelhardt also close to finalising his switch from Leeds United. With the Premier League kicking off in less than a fortnight, head coach Sergej Jakirovic has made it clear the club are still working behind the scenes to add further reinforcements. "I’m expecting at least five [new] players this week," he said. "And we need more than seven new players because we have seven players from the under-21 squad training with us, helping us in our sessions because of our [injury] problems. The new arrivals we have signed are good players but I’m aware they will need time to get the new chemistry of the team. They have quality." Hull appear to be working quietly behind the scenes on a deal for Komur. Sky Germany report that a €10m bid plus €2m in bonuses was submitted, but Augsburg deemed the offer insufficient. Even so, Hull's pursuit has moved forward significantly on the player side. Sky add that the 21‑year‑old has agreed personal terms, leaving the transfer dependent on Hull putting together a package that convinces Augsburg. The initial report, relayed by Get German Football News, claimed that earlier bids of €8m and €9m had already been submitted - both of which Augsburg rejected. It's noted that Augsburg are seeking €13m–€14m (£11m-£12m) guaranteed, plus achievable bonuses and a sizeable sell‑on clause. Separately, Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope is also under consideration, according to the i paper. The 32‑year‑old has been told he can leave St James' Park, but any move would hinge on wage demands - a key factor for Hull after their brush with Financial Fair Play (FFP) earlier in the summer. Hull's busy summer stems from navigating a similarly tough situation last year, when they operated under a transfer embargo yet still managed to win promotion at Wembley. "I knew it would be like this. We lost a lot of players. Because of our embargo we had a lot of loan players, they went back to their clubs and we had to sell players for financial reasons," Jakirovic added. "It’ll be challenging, [a] difficult season, we all know that. I hope we will be good but it’s a lot of work ahead of us, especially in recruitment because we need players. In some positions we are very short. We are working on things but it’s not easy. "Everyone thinks we have a lot of money but we have a responsibility because it’s not just about this season.
