Leeds United predicted XI vs Augsburg with Daniel James, Anton Stach and Brenden Aaronson debate Daniel Farke could hint at which players could start vs Nottingham Forest next weekend on Saturday Leeds United will be handing out a number of competitive debuts against Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the season, though the plan is that all three will have played at Elland Road before the opening fixture. United’s first friendly after signing James Trafford came against Manchester United in Dublin on Wednesday, the goalkeeper making his Leeds bow despite only joining the squad on Tuesday. Saturday’s friendly with Augsburg will be his unofficial home debut, therefore. And actually, Daniel Farke is likely to field an XI close to the one that starts at the City Ground for the curtain-raiser a week later. Fellow new signing Tarik Muharemovic will also get the nod in front of Trafford, and so is likely to begin again against Augsburg. He will be joined by Jaka Bijol in the centre of the defence with the marauding Joe Rodon in the right centre-back slot. On the flanks will be Jayden Bogle and James Justin, who will fill in for the injured Gabriel Gudmundsson on the left. The Swede is expected to miss the trip to Forest and possibly the first home match against Brentford. Midfield will see Ethan Ampadu take up his usual slot with Sean Longstaff likely to start alongside him against Augsburg given his promising form this pre-season. Harry Wilson will undoubtedly start as the right of the two wide 10s behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Noah Okafor is unlikely to be fit to start on the opening day, let alone against Augsburg, and so Farke will have to choose between Anton Stach, Daniel James and Brenden Aaronson as the left-sided 10 option. Given Leeds will be playing away from home versus Forest, Farke’s form suggests Aaronson will get the nod, and he has indeed scored twice this pre-season. James has been spritely but has yet to find the end product while Stach is still getting up to full fitness speed following his injury in May. One side topic is the involvement of Sebastiaan Bornauw in the squad. He played 90 minutes against Manchester United in Dublin but looks set for a move to Hamburg. Leeds are lining up Nico Elvedi in his place. Given Leeds ideally would like his replacement in before he leaves, any Bornauw omission could be telling. Predicted XI vs Augsburg: Trafford; Bogle, Rodon, Bijol, Muharemovic, Justin; Longstaff, Ampadu; Wilson, Aaronson; Calvert-Lewin.
