He won the Bundesliga in his first campaign in Germany, but struggled with injury and the strong competition of Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich and the emerging Aleksandar Pavlovic. As for the Magpies, it remains to be seen whether they would countenance handing a three-year contract to a player who turned 31 last month, but it cannot be argued against that they need bodies in this summer. Newcastle have seen Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes depart for Tottenham and Arsenal respectively, while Joelinton has expressed a desire to move away from the club.
