Former Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara claimed playing for the Reds was "unmatchable" as he reflected on his professional career after retirement. The midfielder had a career path many would dream of, starting out at Barcelona before joining Bayern Munich, then ending his playing days at Anfield. Thiago was well-known for his silky ability on the ball, playing soccer at a pace different to those around him, forcing passes with a technique others couldn't even imagine playing. The 35-year-old racked up over 400 appearances across those three clubs, winning countless trophies, with the only thing truly hampering him being his injury record. For Liverpool, Thiago made 98 appearances from 2020 to 2024, scoring three goals and assisting six times across all competitions for the club. It's a record that saw him feature for the Reds fewer times than that of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but with the love still in his heart for the Anfield atmosphere. Speaking on Beyond The Persona, Thiago revealed the affection he has for Liverpool, as he reflected: "It’s a worker city and we mention a lot to everybody that asks me about Liverpool, why the crowd or the fans are with the team. “I say that it’s because it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about giving your all while you’re on the pitch. Having this sense of team as well, that was the main thing. "It’s the only big team I’ve seen that doesn’t act cocky like a big team, it acts like ‘Okay, we have to [earn] it, everything'. [Those are] the values they run over there. “At Barcelona [in 2012-13], we won all the home games, reached 100 points and beat Madrid for the first time winning the league against them here. “So that day was insane, in terms of numbers, it was insane. There is a parade the next day, people are on the streets, 700,000 people, and it was great. “But what I experienced in Liverpool the day after losing the Champions League final against Madrid, that was unmatchable. We lost and we were all sad, hopeless, then suddenly the exchange of energy was unbelievable.” Unfortunately, Thiago didn't win the silverware at Liverpool that many feel he should have, with the injury issue impacting his ability to make as much of an impact as he would've liked. He will still have a place in the hearts of fans at Anfield, however, who were blessed to see his ability on the ball.
