Wolves working on deal for new midfielder Wolves are keen for a new midfielder. Wolves are working on a deal to sign Welsh international Jordan James. Talks are ongoing with French side Rennes and with the 22-year-old’s representatives over personal terms, as Wolves hope to seal the deal. If signed, the midfielder will bring much-needed depth to Wolves' squad, as well as another homegrown option as Wolves ensure they meet the Championship's requirements of having eight homegrown players in their 25-man squad and seven in every 20-man matchday squad. James came through at Birmingham before joining Rennes in 2024 in a deal reportedly worth £4million, while Serie A side Atalanta were also credited with interest in him at the time. He spent last season on loan at Leicester, where he scored 11 goals in 34 Championship games as the Foxes were relegated to League One. This summer, a number of Championship clubs have been chasing James' signature and it is understood that West Ham, Southampton and Middlesbrough all expressed interest, but Wolves hope to steal a march on their tier two rivals.
