Former Leicester City favourite close to completing £10m transfer to Championship giants The Wales international left Leicester City in the summer after a successful loan spell Former Leicester City midfielder Jordan James is close to joining Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to reports. James spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at the King Power Stadium and was by far the club's best player in a tough campaign. The 22-year-old scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 34 games, but couldn't keep City in the Championship. He won the EFL Young Player of the Season award, as well as three honours at City's end-of-season awards. Leicester were understood to have had an option to buy James permanently, but were unable to do so. He returned to Rennes this summer but has been heavily linked with a permanent return to England. According to the Express & Star, Wolves are working on a deal to sign James, with talks ongoing with Rennes and the midfielder's representatives over personal terms. Middlesbrough, West Ham and Burnley had all been linked with James ahead of the start of the Championship season. However, talkSPORT's Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs have reported that Wolves are now leading the race. A fee of £10m has been mentioned, around twice the amount Leicester could have paid to sign James permanently at the end of the season. The former City star joined Birmingham City as a youngster and came through the academy at St Andrew's. Leicester have been busy in the transfer window themselves, with nine new arrivals. Brighton youngster Harry Howell signed on a season-long loan on Thursday, with striker Admir Bristric joining earlier this week. FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK!
