Ligue 1 sides Marseille and Lyon have made inquiries for West Ham United midfielder Soungoutou Magassa. Inquiry for West Ham man According to their information, Soungoutou Magassa could be set to leave West Ham just a year after joining them. The 22-year-old midfielder is attracting ‘significant interest’, particularly from France. Marseille and Lyon are among the clubs that have made inquiries regarding the French U21 international. Neither of those clubs have submitted a formal offer at this stage. But the interest is genuine. They are not the only suitors for the West Ham man. Galatasaray, Eintracht Frankfurt and Juventus have all been tracking the player. He has a contract with West Ham until 2031. But the Hammers needs to sell several high-value players to boost their finances following relegation to the Championship. They have already see Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville depart in €99m and €64.5m deals respectively. €17m valuation Soungoutou Magassa would not command such a figure. Transfermarkt currently value him at €17m. That’s the same figure West Ham paid to sign him from Monaco a year ago. Whether either of the French sides would want to pay that – or could pay that – isn’t made clear. Given reports elsewhere, it’s hard to see that they would. Marseille, in particular, are in the middle of cost-cutting exercises and trying to move players on as quickly as possible. They need sales, and quickly to comply with financial regulators. It’s already seen them fall out with Pierre Emile Hojbjerg after he blocked a move to Newcastle United at the last minute. It is, therefore, hard to see them being keen on a €17m move for Soungoutou Magassa at this point. But Foot Mercato report that they and Lyon have made inquiries about a potential deal.
