Liverpool and PSG have finally broken the impasse in talks that has kept them from advancing on a deal to bring Bradley Barcola to Anfield this summer. For several weeks now, Liverpool have been incessant in their attempts to sign the French winger, but have been unable to convince PSG to part ways with their unrealistic £145m asking price. Indeed, talks have stalled for so long that fan faith in this deal has withered even if Liverpool haven’t actually wavered in their desire to sign Barcola, but a breakthrough has finally been found! Reporting for TEAMtalk, journalist Graeme Bailey reports that PSG are finally ready to make concessions on their enormous €170m (£145m) valuation of the 23-year-old. Bailey writes: “Paris Saint-Germain are making progress on a deal for Ajax winger Mika Godts as they prepare to let Bradley Barcola leave, with TEAMtalk able to reveal the two moves are now intrinsically linked. “PSG have informed Liverpool that they are willing to lower their asking price for Barcola, but the Reds will need to move significantly closer to their valuation if they are to complete the deal. “At the same time, TEAMtalk understands PSG have made a fresh offer for Godts which is now close to Ajax’s valuation, with the expectation that an agreement for the 21-year-old could be reached this weekend. “Barcola has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and the player’s preference for a move to Anfield has been clear throughout the process.” If not £145m, how much will Liverpool have to pay PSG for Barcola? Bailey reports that while Liverpool value Barcola at £100m, PSG are now finally willing to complete a deal at closer to £145m, representing a £20m drop in their asking price. He reports: “That would still potentially make Barcola the most expensive British transfer of all time – surpassing last summer’s signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle. PSG have now made it clear to Liverpool that there is room to negotiate on the asking price, but they want the Reds to make a significant move from their current valuation.” £125m+ is too much but at this point, I don’t care anymore Liverpool shouldn’t be breaking the Premier League transfer record for Barcola, but I am so beyond caring about the money involved, to be very honest. This transfer has dragged on for so long that I must admit I am no longer seeing reason. That said, Barcola has an incredibly high ceiling and over the course of what will likely be a six-year Liverpool contract, he absolutely has the potential to be worth the money. The one reason I hate seeing massive transfer fees for Liverpool players is that it creates unrealistic expectations and generates far too much pressure on what is ultimately just a young man trying to follow his dream of moving to the Premier League with Liverpool.
